Water-Based Coatings, also known as waterborne coatings use water instead of solvents, proving to be very less hazardous than other solvent-based coatings and diminishing the inconvenience and dangers the workers face about their health after inhaling the evaporated gases from the solvents.
Though some of the water-based coatings do require a few solvents, the mixture rate of atleast 80% water and 20% of other solvents, such as glycol ethers. These coatings still have great environmental compliance and their use in confined spaces also reduces the build-up of flammable compounds in the air and hence, the security and control team of the site can be little at ease.
Water-based coatings also show a considerable decrease in Companies Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) Emissions. This may even help save a buck on environmental compliance expenses for some companies. Some countries like U.S. and Europe also have laws about these coatings, allowing only VOC content of fewer than 3.5 pounds per gallon of water.
