Alkyd

An Alkyd is a form of polyester resin that is produced by the reaction of an alcohol and an organic acid or acid derivatives. It is used as a coating or paint binder, particularly when solvent-based products are required to be fire-resistant, water-resistant, or both.

Alkyd when dried, yields a hard film and has been used as an art medium for millennia. It is durable, highly glossy, colorless to light yellow coating based on a synthetic resin obtained from the reaction of phenol with formaldehyde. It is modified by the addition of such substances as fatty acids and metallic driers.

Being more durable than acrylic lacquers, urethanes, and other finishes, these have low volatility and low odor, making them very desirable for indoor use. They can be applied in almost every type of application (wood, masonry, and metal). The alkyd coating is a perfect choice for affordable, and easy-to-maintain flooring for homes. These are also a more cost-effective option than the other coatings available in the market.
